✔️ Pharmacology

Vitamin C: Essential for collagen formation, and tissue repair, and involved in metabolic pathways including synthesis of catecholamines, carnitine, steroids, and conversion of folic acid to folinic acid.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Ascoson Injection

Adult Dose

• Oral Scurvy Prevention: 25-75 mg daily (4 tablets, 2 to 3 times daily).
• Scurvy Treatment: >250 mg daily, divided doses. Also via IM/IV/SC administration.
• Thalassaemia: 100-200 mg daily with desferrioxamine.
• Common cold: 1 gm or more daily in divided doses.
• Wound healing: 2-4 tablets, 2 to 3 times daily.
• Risk reduction of stroke in the elderly: 1-2 tablets daily.
• 1 effervescent tablet daily with a meal or as directed by a physician.

Child Dose

• Children: 1 month years: 125-250 mg daily; 4-12 years: 250-500 mg daily; 12-18 years: 500 mg-1 g daily. Doses are divided into 1-2 doses.
• Thalassaemia Child: 100-200 mg daily with desferrioxamine.
• Metabolic disorders Child: Neonate: 50-200 mg daily (adjust if needed); 1 month years: 200-400 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses (up to 1 g daily might be needed).

Administration

• May be taken with or without food.
• For IV preparation, dilute with a compatible fluid to reduce adverse reactions.
• Compatible with various diluents.
• IV administration should avoid rapid infusion.

Vitamin C can interact with various substances, including Deferoxamine, hormonal contraceptives, fluphenazine, warfarin, elemental iron, salicylates, disulfiram, mexiletine, vitamin B12, and more.
